Lassen Volcanic National Park is located 180 miles NNE of Sacramento, CA, and is the southernmost extension of the Cascade Volcanic Arc which extends from SW British Columbia to NE California. At an elevation of 6053, Butte Lake was formed by lava flowing from an eruption of Cinder Cone in the 1660's, forming the lakebed and surrounding rim from lava.
