This is an original French 19th Century demijohn cage which was used to transport and protect the large glass bottles filled with wine etc.

Unbelievably this still has its original straw which was used to protect the demijohns in the cage.

It is made of strap iron which was riveted together. (Welding had not been invented then!)

It is in lovely condition, totally original and complete with no damage to the rivets or joins.

We found this hidden under the original Victorian stage of what was once a village hall, unused as such since the early 1900's.

It could still be used to hold a vintage demijohn as a feature or alternatively could make a lovely  log basket, or if mounted on a large post, a reproduction village fire beacon basket even. It has also been suggested that it could be turned into a large lamp!
