We have received a Matsumoku-made Blue Label Riviera, manufactured around the late 1970s!
There is no serial number mentioned on the headstock or label. Interestingly, the label is stamped with "RIVIERAL DELUXE." While the catalog describes it as having a maple body, it features an exotic grain pattern with pronounced flame, which is unusual for maple. (This flame pattern is only on the surface, as the back appears to be regular maple when inspected with a mirror.) During this period, Epiphone guitars had irregularities in label information, so the reasons for "RIVIERAL" and "DELUXE" remain elusive, adding to the allure of the Matsumoku world.
The back of the pickups has an engraving with the same font as the label, suggesting originality. However, the zigzag shape seems somewhat unnatural (possibly expanded?), indicating that there may have been a time when different pickups were installed.
Additionally, it has undergone a rewinding of the pickups, side refinishing, and features CTS pots. Both the switch and jack have been replaced, making it ready for immediate use.
Overall, there are scratches, dents, signs of use, and tarnishing/rust on the metal parts.
The truss rod is in good working condition, with ample adjustment in both forward and reverse directions. The neck's relief has been adjusted with the rod and is nearly straight.
The frets show signs of wear but are generally low and should not pose any issues for playing.
