John Gould (1804 - 1881) Was a noted English ornithologist who published a series of celebrated bird books illustrated with fine hand coloured lithographs which rank alongside Audubon and Selby as the finest bird illustrations ever produced. He worked alongside other artists including his wife Elizabeth, William Hart, Henry Richter, Joseph Wolf and the multi-talented Edward Lear.

The magnificent plates are appreciated as much for their artistic quality as for their ornithological accuracy and many reproductions flood the market. The original work offered here is of course to be greatly valued and Gould bird prints are widely collected and make a sound investment.
