About Artist :


Hongren (1610-1663), with a common surname of Jiang and a surname of Tao, had the character Liuqi. After becoming a monk, he was later renamed Hongren and was also known as a scholar of Jianjiang, also known as Wuzhi and Meihua Gu Na. He was from Shexian County, Anhui Province. After the death of the Ming Dynasty, he entered Mount Wuyi as a monk, traveled around and returned to Shexian County, lived in the Taiping Xingguo Temple and Wuming Temple in the western suburbs, and often traveled between Mount Huangshan Mountain and Baiyue Mountain. He attached great importance to learning from nature, and was good at painting Mount Huangshan and Mount Wuyi, conveying the beauty of mountains and rivers. His artistic conception was magnificent and elegant, and he "learned the true nature of Mount Huangshan". Together with Shi Tao and Mei Qing, he became a representative of the "Mount Huangshan School of Painting". In Anhui, it is known as the "Haiyang Four Schools" along with Zha Shibiao, Sun Yi, and Wang Zhirui, forming the "Xin'an School". At the same time, they were collectively referred to as the "Four Monks of the Early Qing Dynasty" along with Shi Tao, the Eight Great Masters, and Kun Can. [2] Representative works include "Imitation of Ni Zan's Landscape Painting" and "The Painting of Xiumu in a Youting Pavilion".
