Mr. Delfau, 85, a designer of sets and costumes whose work was featured for many years in ballets by (Ruth) Page and several international dance companies, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, in Northwestern Hospital in Chicago.

A native of France, Mr. Delfau also had created scenery for such major ballet companies as the Royal Danish Ballet and the Royal Ballet of Great Britain.

He and Miss Page, friends and artistic collaborators for years, married in 1987. She died in 1991.
