Antique Owens China Co Gold Medal Minerva Ohio Young Woman Stoneware Pitcher.

The Owen China Company was founded in Minerva, Ohio, in 1906 by Ted Owens. Their kilns were closed in 1932 as a result of the Great Depression, so they were in production for less than 30 years. They made semi porcelain dinnerware, decorative pottery, hotel china, and decorative and household pottery using local Ohio clay. The pieces were decorated with underglaze and overglaze, handpainted and used transfer for their decorations.

This pitcher is was part of the Owens ceramics line called "Minerva." It has wonderful deep glazing and the image of a young woman with soft peach flowers in her hair and a gauzey blue shoulder wrap. This is a unique and rather rare piece in very good antique condition. There is crazing throughout and a few pit marks where the glaze was laid heavily, and nomial glaze wear. Please review the photos as I have attempted to highlight all parts of this remarkable piece. It is sturdy, solid, and very heavy weighing nearly 6lbs.

The pitcher is marked "Gold Medal St. Louis Owen Minerva." In 1904, Owens China Company won a gold medal at the St. Louis 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposiiton.

The piece measures approximatley 12.5" H x 6.75" at the base.
