Hello and welcome to the Textile Trunk! ~*~ Please follow us on Instagram! We are @textiletrunk ~*~

This is a lovely piece of vintage French ticking dating from the 1800's , but I am not sure which decade, it's unused!~ A collectors dream ! I've never found a piece of ticking with the original stamp! It's a very exciting find. This stamp was used to show one had paid the taxes on this length and it identifies the maker ~ SOOO rare!~ It's a lovely linen and cotton , with a very durable, sturdy, herringbone weave. ~ This piece has a lovely mushroom brown tone, with off-white stripes this fabric has endless uses! , lovey for pillows small upholstery etc! ~~ The word 'ticking' is derived from the Latin word for case, 'Tica.' The fabric came to be known as 'denim,' as Nimes, France was one of the great producers of this ticking fabric! Ticking fabric was used for creating mattresses, as the European bedding system of old consisted of many layers of textiles - the ones at the bottom were stuffed with straw and fodder and topped with a dense denim (ticking) that was stuffed with feathers for the top layers. This is a wonderful, historical fabric!

MEASUREMENTS: This lovely piece measures 72 inches by 43 inches ~

CONDITION: This fabric has been left in as found, unwashed condition, I believe the stamp will wash out if washed!~ I can't be sure ~ it's in fabulous unused condition!!
