PREMIER SWISS MID-CENTURY MODERN 8-DAY ALARM CLOCK BY IMHOF

This visually compelling timepiece is from my personal collection of clocks curated since 1972.  Commencing with apprenticeship to a European master clock and watchmaker through high school graduation, freshmen year of college and remainder of the 1970s, I sensitively restored clocks of all types; opening service and sales showrooms in the western suburbs of Chicago.  After a 35 year "sabbatical" pursuing an appraisal career, I've returned to the venerable trade.

Founded in 1924, Arthur Imhof SA was known for manufacture of elegant desk and table clocks.  The company continued production of quality timekeepers through the early 1970s, supplying prestigious jewelers with their innovative designs.  This is a particularly fine movement with rarely encountered sub-plate supporting the alarm train.

Handsome gold plated brass case with canted racetrack plinth, dramatic black Bakelite domical stanchions and molded arches flank the bezel.  Bold oversize copper dial signed ImHof 8 SWISS with luminous numbers, black chapter ring with minute marks, blued steel hands and chrome alarm pointer.   Movement cover stamped SWISS, 15 jewels and serial numbered. Keys and knobs are marked to indicate function and direction of turning.  Winding the alarm (top left knob) mainspring raises the small button atop the cover.  The bell is silenced by depressing the button.

The clock presents attractively and is in fine running order.

NOTE:  In March of 2024, I  completely disassembled, ultrasonically cleaned and rinsed the movement in waterless solutions, checked for wear, polished a scored pivot and installed a bushing, reassembled and lubricated with high-grade Swiss oils.  Mainsprings were removed from barrels, cleaned and lubricated with grease.  Hands, dial, crystal and the case were cleaned. Meticulous restoration should provide reliable operation for years.  Labor cost for professional overhaul of comparable antique alarm clocks averages $350.

Please review descriptive information and study the photographs for details.  I'm available to answer any and all questions / concerns.
