Tokens Key System ‘47 CA Cable ‘51 East Bay ‘30
For consideration are 3
various California transit tokens.
The first is a bus token is
for the “East Bay Transit Company” and is “Good For One Fare”. It is round with
cut outs and was manufactured and used in 1930. East Bay Transit Company was
located in Oakland, California. The token measures 5/8 inches in diameter.
The next token is also a
bus token. It is for the Key System in Oakland, California, and made in 1947. One
side reads “Key System Oakland” and the other side reads “Good For One Local
Fare”. This has a letter “K” cut out in the center and was made by Scovill
Manufacturing Company in Waterbury, Connecticut, USA. It is made of white metal
and measures 5/8 inch in diameter.
The last token is a San
Francisco, California, Cable Car token. This was used in 1951 after the basic
fare was raised to 15 cents or two tokens for 25 cents. It reads “California St
Cable RR” and “Good For One Fare”. The token measures 5/8 inches in diameter.
The patina is natural on
all 3 tokens other than having been washed with soap and water. Buyer will
