Hollywood Babylone

Title: Hollywood Babylone
Publication: Paris: J.J. Pauvert, 1959
Edition: First edition

Description: Signature-bound 7 1/4" x 7 1/4" in light beige paper wraps and glossy pictorial dust jacket. The first edition of Kenneth Anger's landmark critique of the nascent scandalous side of the film industry---and it's celebrity children---during the first half of the 20th century. Jean Jacques Pauvert, known for introducing The Story of O and re-introducing the Marquis de Sade to contemporary readership, publishing Anger's avant garde, black and white masterpiece in 1959. It would be 6 years before English rights would be bought in 1965 by Associated and immediately banned in the United States before being re-printed by Rolling Stone's Straight Arrow in 1975. The book achieved cult status over the decades since it's French release and eventually a sequel was penned by Anger in the mid-1980s with accompanying translations into dozens of languages. Good book, warp to binding, lateral crease throughout entire text block, creating a wave in book; fair dust jacket, heavily chipped edges, several tears and creases, well worn and rubbed edges, some missing sections from cover and spine.
