I've just returned from France and was laden with wonderful textiles. This is a collection of 72 various colors ,fiber content, pattern! I felt so fortunate to have stumbled on these c 1890-1920 Antique French Ribbon samples! Most are made of silk, taffeta , some cotton. Some printed some woven ~ they are SUCH a treat. Most of them will have the card from the manufacturer , manufacturers like Chenouf Frerers , Chenouf Bessy, Most were manufactured in St. Etienne, France. Not by coincidence, these manufacturers were just near Lyon, the silk producing region of France ( amongst others).
From the 16th century, Saint-Étienne developed an arms manufacturing industry and became a market town. It was this which accounted for the town's importance, although it also became a center for the manufacture of ribbons and passementerie starting in the 17th century.
~ These are taken from a large collection : I do have more ( to view the others, simply search my store for " Ribbon Samples " . There are SO many ways to use these and also take inspiration from the many colors and designs. A treasure of a find!!

MEASUREMENTS: The ribbons measurements vary greatly in length and width! ~

CONDITION: These samples are in excellent condition. There are some that may have a tear or a small mark etc, not perfect , but perfectly wonderful with very light signs of time and use ~*~
