The Wonderful Worlds of Walt Disney is a four-volume set of children's books released by Golden Press (Western Publishing) in 1965. The volumes are hardcover, 10 1/2" x 7 1/2" and fit neatly into a green cardboard box. These are classics of children's educational and entertainment literature -- they occupy the same space, perhaps, as Childcraft books but leaning into stories about the world, about fantasy, nature, and a wide variety of other subjects. Some of the stories feature popular Disney properties like Bambi and Pinocchio; others feature nonfiction information about nature or "other cultures." As these were written in the early 1960s, their treatment of "other cultures" seems a bit dated, but gentle and, at least, not deliberately offensive.

If you look at comments regarding these books on review websites you see many people proclaiming that they were a huge part of their childhoods; that the books were read over and over; that they were passed on to children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

The books were widely published so they are not hard to find. It is difficult, however, to find a set in this high-quality and complete a condition -- minimal to no discoloration, very little exterior wear, bright white pages, intact bindings. This is not one of the sets that was read to tatters by someone's children, but it is ready to be absorbed by today's youngsters. Alternately, this would be a lovely addition to someone's collection of Disneyana, or just as a treasured piece of nostalgia on the shelf of someone who remembers the books fondly from their own childhood.

Here are the condition notes:

Both the box and the four books are in amazing condition for a set nearly sixty years old. The box shows minor edge wear with vary small tears at the top front corners. The box decal is bright and vibrant with no fading or discoloration. The box tends to list to the side when filled with books and standing on its own - it probably needs a shelf or book-ends for support. There is a ribbon in the box that you pull to slide the volumes out easily (like an old fashioned battery case) and thiis is intact and functional. The books themselves are in uniformly great condition with minimal exteior wear -- lightly bumped corners and light edge rubbing. Interiors are clean and unmarked with bright white pages. Bindings are intact though they are a bit "creaky" with age. A couple of volumes have a very few tiny white dots of paint on the exterior spine as though they were left in a room where someone was painting the wall. Overall A+ condition for age.
