[Protest Stickers & Correspondence]

Author: Wandrey, Uwe
Title: [Protest Stickers & Correspondence]
Publication: Hamburg: Quer-Verlag, 1968

Description: Roll of Stickers, 2" wide and approximately 150 feet long, rubberstamped in purple ink on red gummed sticker paper, with separate examples of each of the six rubberstamps made on envelopes which have been taped together. With two TLS from Wandrey to the Dutch artist and collector Tjeerd Deelstra, and an anti-Springer publishing house pin badge, all housed in the padded envelope with printed publisher's address sticker, addressed to Deelstra and post-marked in May of 1968.

A powerful set of stickers made by Wandrey to protest the Vietnam War, the American war machine and the newspaper Bild, sent to Deelstra in May of 1968 - the same year that Wandrey published Kampfreime, perhaps the first book to be designed as a weapon.

The envelope includes a postcard sent from Wandrey to Deelstra, outlining works available from the press, which is dated May 13, 1968. The second letter informs Deelstra that some of the items were out of stock, but that Wandrey has included the gummed roll, which he describes as Agit-Prop-Kleberollen, and the separate prints, as well as his periodical Reizreime (not included here) and the anti-Springer pin.

Rare and ephemeral work from one of the most interesting artists of the time, and the only example we've seen of the stickers.
