Beautiful historical second year issue George I Dump Issue Copper HALFPENNY, dated 1718. The coin is identified as KM# 549.

The Obverse features George I laureate and cuirassed bust right, toothed border both sides.

The Reverse depicts Inverted die axis, Britannia seated left on globe, with shield, spear and spray of leaves, date in exergue.  The  1717–1718 were well-struck coins  with the  Britannia seated on the reverse, with  high-relief features, and they are  known as the ‘dump halfpenny.’

A historical note. At the beginning of King George I (1714–1727) reign, the surplus of copper coins was completed. In 1717 a new contract was agreed and a Royal Warrant issued for the production of a new halfpenny. These halfpennies were struck in 1717 and 1718 and looked different as they were smaller, thicker and lighter than the previous issues.
