Up for auction is a vintage Hendrik Van Loon "Wide World" Board Game. The object of this educational game is to be the first player to complete a trip around the world, traveling from San Francisco to Manila, via both steamer and airplane, by following the moves on game cards. Included is the Folding Game Board with a map of the world, which has a brown textured back, and measures approximately 26.5 by 16.75 inches in size. Also included is a small cardboard box that holds the "Playing Pieces". Inside of the box are: the two cardboard separation inserts; 6 yellow "Wide World Tickets"; 24 pink airplane cards plus one additional blank card; 24 green steamship cards plus one additional blank card; 4 metal airplanes; 4 metal steamships; and the four page "Rules" or Instruction Sheet for playing the game. There were many editions of this game, and this 1933 version was based on "The Story of Mankind", written by Hendrik Van Loon in the 1920's. Van Loon was a Dutch-born American writer who authored over 30 books.
