Solid Silver Ireland Remembrance Brooch

Hallmarked 1889 Birmingham

This oval brooch is sterling silver, hallmarked for Birmingham in 1889.

It is a wonderful design, showing emblems of Ireland; shamrocks and the Harp, and I can't help but wonder if it was made for one of the many immigrants who left their home country in the 1870s and 1880s in search of work. Perhaps a little piece of pride in their homeland?

Whatever it's roots, it is a beautiful little brooch that measures about 4.5cms across by 2.3cms wide.

There are a few dents on the back of the brooch which you can see on my photographs.
