This is a truly incredible antique portrait. It is an engraving on glass with artist coloring & embellishment. You can see the brush strokes on the back side of the glass when it is removed from the frame. It comes framed in an antique wooden frame that compliments the artwork well. There is damage to the frame but the art itself is lovely!

This portrait depicts Thomas Cranmer (1489-1556) - the English Archbishop of Canterbury. He was a religious reformist and created the Book of Common Prayer that is still in use today. He led the church through reforms. He was denounced by Queen Mary I for promoting Protestantism - who then sentenced him to death and he was burned at the stake.

This portrait is exceptionally well done. The original artist of this engraving is unknown but has been documented through the National Galleries of Scotland.

It measures about 9” by 14” with the frame. It is an amazing piece of history to add to any collection.
