Made in Japan in 1981, the SS-48 Silver Star was Tokai’s mid-range model aimed to replicate a CBS era Fender Stratocaster. Sen ash body with a three-tone sunburst finish bolted to a maple neck with a 21 fret rosewood fingerboard (41mm nut width), it weighs 3.7kg's. Full '72 vibes with a three-bolt neck plate and neck tilt adjustor along with a large headstock.
This one's been hot-rodded (likely in the 80's) with a Tokai "Extra" locking tremolo and locking string tree on the headstock that were both usually seen on Tokai's contemporary style superstrats of the mid to late 1980's. Still loaded with the original Tokai SS-Super alnico single coils controlled by a 5-way switch and the original fulll sized Japanese pots.
This one's been well played and well loved over the years but overall it's in decent vintage condition as pictured and received a restring and basic setup/service prior to listing. The neck is worn down to a satin smooth finish in spots and there are some cosmetic bumps and bruises to the body and neck. The frets are smooth and shiny with some light playwear, the neck is straight with a fully functional truss. The electronics are working well and the pots have been flushed/lubed.
