Cool guitar. This was a revamp and as near as I can tell, the body, pickguard, and pickup are original Stiles. The neck, bridge, finish, knobs, and tailpiece are not. When I got this I had no idea what it was. Stiles guitars made in Florida in the 60's on a order only basis. All hand done including the pickups. There are I believe 2 body styles, this one, and another that has curling horns. Single and 2 pickup models exist. If you look on Reverb current and completed sales you can find some other Stiles guitars all of these are very rare.
The pickguard is made of a resin fiber material they had back in the old days for switch panels in old radio equipment and the knobs while not original, are old and have a Bakelite look to them.
This would have had a short 24" scale neck like a fender mustang. It currently has a 23 1/2" scale like a Gibson Byrdland. The frets have no wear and are polished nicely. I like short scale so this was a great find for me at the time. The bridge is one of those Mosrite copies. The tailpiece is sort of Suproish. The finish is kind of a "open pore" which I like but it is glossier than you would expect. There is 2 plugged holes where I believe the original bridge was and 2 plugged on the back. One would have been covered by a neckplate the other is near the bottom and what it was for, no idea. The neck is straight. As you can see it is a real neat guitar but...the pickup is a problem. It is not wax potted so it is micro-phonic. I believe at some point it was rewound. I purchased this without the company of an amp. The pickup is a almost copy of a DeArmond Dynasonic pickup like the ones found on Gretsch guitars. It is also very dull sounding leading me to believe it was rewound with the wrong gauge wire. There is a 3 position toggle switch which changes the sound a little but how well is hard to say since I'm not turning this up very loud do to the for mentioned problems. So budget some for a rewind of this pickup and all should be fine. The pots have some weird numbering not likely original see last photos. This is a piece of history and while not all original, what is left still conveys the coolness.
Sorry case is not included and not very sturdy anyway but that's another story.
I know how to pack and ship a guitar so no worries. I am using FedEx so insurance will be a little extra.
Please see all the photos and my feedback.
Thanks!
