For your consideration is this commemorative ashtray for USS Fairfield Works in Alabama. The ashtrays pan is embossed and reads "1ST Q-BOP HEAT AUG. 25, 1974 / FAIRFIELD / USS / WORKS/ UNITED STATES STEEL". There are three cigarette resting indentions on the rim. It is used and has a few minor abrasions, but overall it is in good condition. The ashtray measures 3.9 inches in diameter x 0.5 inches high. According to the Library of Congress, Fairfield works undertook major expansions in 1974 by adding three Q-BOP (Basic Oxygen Process) furnaces by 1978. This piece was most likely a commemorative piece given to employees at that time to celebrate the expansion. This is a great collector's item from the steel industry in Alabama.
