A work of art fabulous textile history ~*~ BEAUTIFUL and rare ~ This incredible textile is French and as wonderfully inspired by the 18th century as they come. It was entirely and faithfully based on Chinese wallpaper ( with gilded ground) for the European market in the last quarter of the 18th century ( c1775) Most likely Part of the " Orientalism craze in the 19th century, mid to late 1800's. ~ This piece is a form of Broderie Perse ( Broderie Perse is French for "Persain ( spelled incorrectly as Etsy doesn't allow that word to be used !:) Broderie Perse Embroidery". It is a technique where elements, such as flowers or birds, are cut from fabric and appliqued onto a solid piece of fabric to make a scene or central design. It was most popular in Europe in the 17th century, and probably travelled from India, as there are some earlier findings there. ~
This panel is one of four, they were once used on a room screen ( to view the others, simply search my store for the words Broderie Perse . The ground fabric is a wonderful, silk velvet, with beautiful sheen ~ The applique : some appears to have been linen and then painted once in place, and others appear to have been printed cloth. It's 100% hand stitched. EVERYTHING about this piece is magic, all of the things my eyes LOVE to see ~ it would be amazing to Frame, it deserves to be center of the room ~ timeworn in all of the ways I love ~ It's one of my favorite finds from my last buying trip to France.

MEASUREMENTS: This piece measures approximately: 55 inches by 22 inches ~

CONDITION : This fabric is in unwashed as found condition ~ there is a large tear just below the pods, this can be mending with fusing tape on the back~ Please use the zoom feature to view the exact condition ~. The backing has heavy storage marks. There are some small holes and some little tears. This fabric is only really suitable for framing as it's lost strength . There are signs of time and use often inherent in these wonderful antiques ~
