As-pictured... this rare breed of garment is cut from the same sort of hefty wool wool weave in a distinctive windowpane plaid pattern (aka Adirondack Plaid) hugely similar to the legendary Malone pants, guide jackets, and Mackinaw coats produced by the J.O. Ballard Mill, founded in Malone, New York, in 1891 and treasured by lumberjacks, woodsmen, and hunters,
The similarity ends there... with styling cues more common to British gentleman's dapper town & country coat than a woodsman's garment. But weighing in at nearly 3lbs of hefty wool... this sport coat carries the same sort of weather-beating warmth found in a classic cruiser or guide jacket.
It features:
The coat was made expressly for "Finchley," the prestigious men's clothier that once graced New York's 5th Avenue and Jackson Blvd in Chicago. Our album holds a 1945 advertisement for a $200 ($3,400 in 2024 dollars) Finchley cashmere overcoat and a 1949 ad for a $90 ($1,100 today) suit ad that speak to the store's reputation for top-of-the-line apparel.
This garment is rock-solid with all 10 original buttons... no rips, no mothing, no wear other than a few negligible spots hidden in the plush 3/4 satin lining and under a pocket flap.
Tagged size 44 but measures to SIZE 42 REGULAR industry standards. Check these dimensions against your favorite coat and decide for yourself. This is a final sale. We can't guarantee fit or your satisfaction with the garment's classic molted gray and ruby red windowpane color story.
