Description: A stunning polished butt end of Mary Ellen Jasper, an iron-rich stromatolitic chert from the 1.88 billion year old Biwabik Iron Formation of the Mesabi Range in northeastern Minnesota, USA. It contains beautifully preserved fossils of the columnar stromatolite known as Collenia Undosa, as well as a range of interesting sedimentary features and some striking quartz veins. This butt end has been cut with a diamond saw and polished to a mirror finish.
