A very early 1800's heavy steel or iron trunk lock, marked "(Crown)GR Patent" with a brass moving key hole cover and escutcheon.  The crown with GR under it means it was made during the reign of King George IV of England.  He reigned from 1820 to 1830, when this style lock was being used on antique trunks made in England and in the U.S. because we had very few trunk locks being made in the U.S. during those years. It wasn't until the 1830's to 1850's when lock makers in the U.S. were formed and started making trunk locks.  English trunk locks were imported in the late 1700's and early 1800's for use on trunks.

Measures 2 1/2" tall and 3 1/4" wide.   This style lock was used on many trunks of the 1820's to 1830's. This is the lock base piece only, no hasp or key is included.  It appears to have all the parts in the base piece so that it should work if you find or make the right key, but no guarantee.  Sometimes you just need and early trunk lock to make the trunk you have look complete even if it doesn't lock. You will get exactly what is shown in the pictures.
