MG Midget 1500. Has been off the road for 10 years, dry stored. The car was originally yellow, and is still registered as such. However it is now a really lovely deep metallic orange. This would have been stunning when it was first repainted.

The car is eligible to be registered as Historic, making it tax and MOT exempt. I have not had the car long enough to do this but it is a straightforward process and adds huge appeal to a project like this. I already have a (restored) 1275cc Midget and fancied another one as a recommissioning project over the summer. This one became available at a very appealing price, but I hadn't realised it would need welding, which it clearly does.

Bad bits
  • A posts both need repairing. I have dug a screwdriver into the driver's side - this was the point at which I realised I wouldn't be repairing it myself. There is also a repair needed at the front of the nsr wheelarch, and there are tacked on welding panels on the osr of the car. It needs a good going over by someone happy to do welding and paint.

  • Front rubber has a crack in it (could be a good excuse to convert it to chrome bumpers!)

  • The car isn't running at the moment - I have had it running with petrol put directly into the carb floats, and it fired up easily, but I think the fuel pump needs changing.

  • It may need other attention (I would assume so) as I have not used the car and it has been off the road a long time.
Good bits

  • Brakes appear to have had attention (the parking brake cables look new).
  • Fuel hoses have been refreshed
  • Hood appears in fairly good condition (one small fabric tear under a rear window which can be stitched easily)
  • Rostyle wheels in good condition. One tyre looks like it will need changing (I'd change them all though given age)
  • Other bodywork areas look really good - bonnet, front valence, around the bumpers, wings, boot, boot floor all are very sound. I've seen a lot worse!
