Kholuy miniature is a folk craft that has developed in the village of Kholuy, Ivanovo region. The lacquer miniature is made with tempera on papier-mâché. Caskets, jugs, needle cases are usually painted.
One of the old lackey styles is "painterly" when the image is not overloaded with small details. There are many household plots in this direction. Such products were usually made with gold ornaments. Prominent representatives of this trend are N. I. Baburin, K. V. Kosterin, B. V. Tikhonravov.
The difference between the Kholuy painting and the painting of other centers of lacquer miniatures (Palekh, Fedoskino, Mstera) lies in the use of other color combinations. Kholui is characterized by the use of the whole variety of color palettes.
