It is difficult to imagine a more sophisticated design than this 1960s 23 jewelled Bulova wristwatch in a special, high decorated white gold-filled case. Sleek, stylish and expertly engineered, this was the watch every lady aspired to. Considered one of the finest watches of the day, this Bulova ‘La Petite’ not only embodies elegance, it remains a fine example of Bulova's stylistic prowess.

DETAILS:

Case:            ‘La Petite model’. Delightful, tonneau shaped case which is richly decorated in the ‘French Louis XIV’ style. There are two very small diamonds at the top and bottom of the lugs where they meet the crystal. Original & signed ‘Bulova’. The 10kt white gold plated bezel and case back have been cleaned & repolished and fitted with a new ridged acrylic crystal. The crystal does distort the view of the dial in the photographs which is perfectly normal. In general, the case looks great with modest wear/scratches present commensurate with the age of the watch.

Crown:         Original, signed, showing some wear.

Dial:             Very eye-catching & immaculate. The silver tone dial is in its original condition, accentuating and complementing the rich lustre of the 10kt white gold plated case. The even number hour positions are numerals whilst the odd positions are arrow shaped markers. All are silver tone and slightly raised on the dial numerals to great effect. The ‘Bulova’ name along with the ‘23’ are in black.

Hands:         Hour and minute hands are all original, ‘Index’ style, steel, looking great.

Movement:  BULOVA high quality Swiss manual wind movement. This is a fine classic 5AD calibre with 23 jewels and is marked ‘M2’ for 1962. The movement has been cleaned, oiled & adjusted, and at the time of listing is running well keeping good time ready to wear. As with all vintage watches regular servicing is recommended.

Size:            Tonneau shaped measures approx. 32.80mm X 13.90mm wide (excluding the crown).

Band:           A new ‘Finesse’ black cord band with 12kt white gold plated clasps has been fitted complementing the watch perfectly. The length including the watch is approx. 170mm.

Box:             This watch comes with its original hard case presentation box, cardboard outer, guarantee paper and foil tags.

The box decoration to the lid shows a gently embossed light blue coloured background. In a stylised font is ‘Bulova’ taking center stage, with ‘La Petite beneath. The outer is showing considerable age related wear including scuffs, scrapes, stains, splitting and wear having performed its task of protecting the contents admirably. Please take a moment to be sure you are happy with this.

The hard case presentation box is in remarkable condition having being protected by the cardboard outer. The box is a highly polished light blue plastic embellished with bold ridges to the top and extending onto the front giving rise to an almost theatrical appearance. The ‘Bulova’ name is given pride of place on the front with the embossed ‘Goddess of Time’ logo in gold tone above.

The sprung lid opens as it should to reveal the sumptuous interior lined with plush navy-blue silk. The watch is presented on an unusual mount which raises and lowers as the lid is opened and closed. The mount has a delightful fabric finish, decorated with a floral motif which catch the light to great effect. The ‘Bulova’ name and ‘La Petite’ are above whilst ’23 Jewels’, ‘Fashioned in diamonds’ is below. The central mount for the watch is covered in light blue coloured velvet. This is showing some discolouration.

The original Bulova 'La Petite' guarantee bond is present which gives some background information about the watch and its attributes. Interestingly, the original foil name and price tags are present being so wonderful to have survived the years together with the watch. This is certainly a watch for the collector.
