First World War SWB B238542 granted to 41432 Acting Lance Sergeant John Worthington Tomlinson Military Medal (28 August 1889-13 September 1965), 11th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers.

John was born at Feniscowles, one of four children of Robert and Grace Tomlinson and was working as a back tenter at a paper mill at the age of 21.  He enlisted on 24 January 1916 and served overseas with 11 Lancashire Fusiliers.  He was wounded in 1918, appearing in the War Office Daily (casualty) List issued on 8 June.  Nineteen days later his name was published in the London Gazette for bravery in the field, for which he was awarded the Military Medal.  He was discharged from the Army on 6 June 1919 because of his wound.

John married Sarah Windle in early 1922 and they had a son, Robert, two year later.  In 1939, John was an engine tenter in cotton manufacture and living at 64 Preston Old Road, Feniscowles.  He died, still at that address, at the age of 76.
