PSA SET PROFILE - 1959 TOPPS BASEBALL:
The 1959 Topps Baseball set consists of 572 cards measuring 2-1/2" by 3-1/2". Each uniquely designed card front combines rich colors and baseball-shaped, close-up photos, with a solid-color background above and below and a white border. A facsimile autograph is found across the photo. The set is anchored by the heroes of the day, including Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Duke Snider, Hank Aaron and Ernie Banks. Card numbers below 507 have red and green printing on back with the card number in white in a green box. On high number cards beginning with #507, the printing is black and red and the card number is in a black box. Specialty cards include multiple-player cards, team cards with checklists on back, “All-Star” cards, “Baseball Thrills,” and 31 ”Rookie Stars.” There is also a card of the Commissioner Ford Frick, and one of former Dodger Roy Campanella in a wheelchair. A handful of cards can be found with and without lines added to the biographies on back indicating trades or demotions; those without the added lines are scarcer and more valuable and are not included in the complete set price. Card numbers 199-286 can be found with either white or gray backs, with the gray stock being the less common.
