Roux Marquiand French Chef Letter Opener. Ideal Gift for the Chef in the family.

Others have listed this item as solid silver, however, whilst I think I may have seen some markings to the foot and collar I cannot be certain. So I am selling as silver plate with stainless steel blade.

Silver plated handle is wax weighted.

In excellent vintage condition with no faults found, and in its original box. It does not appear to have been used.

Measurements approximately:

Length: 22cm (8.1/2”)

I have given it a quick wipe over, but as with all my items I don't over clean or polish. There may be the odd age related wear/mark commensurate with age, anything of note is listed above.

Please see all photos using the zoom function available, as they constitute the item description.

Please note where possible packaging is recycled. If purchasing via expedited shipping despatch time will be one working day maximum. I only ship internationally via eBay’s GSP service, as the U.K. does not provide a fully tracked service.

About the item: Wax-cast Sterling Silver handled letter opener by the acclaimed cutlers and silversmiths Roux Marquiand, France. The blade, of Stainless Steel, is attached to a charming figurative sculpture (in 'the round') of a young chef complete with tall hat. The quality and elegance of this piece cannot be understated and would grace the desk of a gentleman as it would a lady.

Please see the below copied, with thanks, from the Roux-Marquiand site: "Exquisite flatware and cutlery produced using old world methods. In 1856 two goldsmiths created Roux-Marquiand. In 1992 a new strategy based on these creations is started. Experimental creators launched some new lines, respecting quality and know-how of their original craftsmen.Success is immediate. On June 2000 Roux Marquiand reinforced its know-how through association with the parisian Aubry-Cadoret, creating then the 3rd french goldsmith group. Below is a detailing of how Roux-Marquiand flatware is produced using the "lost wax" process. 1st step: The manufacturing of waxes For each handle, one wax is produced. These waxes are put on a tree. 2nd step: To put in a plaster cylinder and flow in The wax tree is introduced in a plaster cylinder. The cylinder is heated and the wax is then "lost" giving the name of "lost wax casting" technique. After a 24 hours heating in the oven, the flow of the melting metal can take place. 3rd step: Exit of the metal cylinder After cleaning of the cylinder, the metal tree appears, identical to the original waxes. 4th step: Preparation of the handles The cut of the handle will allow to weld the "top" of the fork. The polishing of the surfaces is essential for the silver to adhere. 5th step: The welding of the cutlery The pieces, positionned with great precision, are welded with silver (for highest resistance). 6th step: The finishing The final polishing gives brightness to the cutlery and the desired color. Every piece is controlled and packed before expedition."
