BOYS’ BOOK OF THE ARMY TALES OF THE INDIAN WARS 1907 HARPER
& BROS. DJ. I quote from the flap of the dust
jacket. “Here is a book to warm the
cackles of a boy’s hear and to send him galloping down that highway best known
to lovers of adventure—the long and thrilling road traveled by soldiers in the
American Army…A book of sure-fire thrills and of a sturdy, intelligent
patriotism.” Please find on offer here: “Boys’
Book of the Army.” According to the
title page, the tales contained in the book are by: “Gen. Charles King,
John Harberton, Captain Charles A. Curtis, Lieut. Charles D. Rhodes and
Others.” Please see the photo of the
Table of Contents for your further information.
The title page says the book is “illustrated” and indeed, there are four
illustrations listed, all of which are present and accounted for (I checked). This small-sized hard cover book (5 ¼ x 7 ½
inches, 244 pages) was published by Harper & Bros. of New York, dated 1907. There is no mention of edition. The book is bound in blue cloth with orange
and black decorations and titles on cover and spine. It is protected by a pictorial dust jacket,
now a bit battered but still doing its function. This book is quite rare; I was unable to find
any extant copies of an original edition of this book. The only offerings online were for
print-on-demand versions, and I have priced it at the same price as one of
those, with the conviction that the collector would rather have an original.
Condition: This book is in very
good condition. As mentioned, however,
the dust jacket has born the burden of wear, with lots of edge wear including
small tear and large chips (please see the photos). The hard covers are much better although they
too show some edge wear and some minor bumping.
Inside, the book is unmarked, and the pages are clean and bright
throughout. Both hinges are intact, and
the binding is tight and sound. This
book is not ex-library or a remainder.
Shipping:
This book will be very carefully packed, with bubble wrap and with solid
cardboard for their protection and promptly mailed upon payment. Please note that I do not charge for packing
and handling; all you pay is the postage.
Media mail postage for this small-sized
hard cover book will be only $4.30. Within
the US for domestic mailings, combined shipping for multiple purchases is
gladly offered. You will pay full price
for the shipping of the first book and half price for any others purchased that
same week. For example, two books with
shipping at $4 each will ship for $6 combined.
The eBay site
has become so popular that it is difficult to find your way back to a seller
with an interesting array of listings.
Please consider “book-marking” my site so you can easily return to a
constantly changing inventory of other truly vintage books and/or collectible
works.
Please also
be aware that all my current listings
are “spring-summer-fall season” listings held here in New York State. Once the snow starts again and it gets cold,
I will hightail it to Florida, ending these listings and reverting to another
catalogue of different books held there.
Please don’t hesitate to send in any questions; I will
monitor closely and respond promptly. Thanks,
and enjoy.
