Breguet, Horloger de la Marine Royale, 18k gold pocket watch répétition à ponts 1829

Breguet, Horloger de la Marine Royale, No. 4029, sold to Robert Knight on August 29, 1829 for 2,400 francs. An extremely beautiful and rare "Répétition à ponts" pocket watch in 18-karat gold, with jump hour, quarter repeater and ruby cylinder escapement.

Case: case form "quatre baguettes", case by Joly, with master's mark and case no. 196, engine-turned edge and cover, the latter with a small "eye". Hinged gold cuvette, signed "Breguet, Horloger de la Marine Royale, No. 4029". The edge of the cuvette is also engine-turned. French hallmark ""Bull"" for 750 gold (valid 1798-1938) and ""Bull's Head"" control hallmark for gold watches (valid 1822-1838), in both lids. The guilloché work is very well preserved, becoming somewhat weaker towards the edge.

Dial of solid silver, engine-turned and brushed, signed, radial Roman numerals, outer minute division with dot indices. Original, blued steel "Breguet" hands. The dial and hands are immaculate, the mineral crystal is also in excellent condition.

Movement: 51 mm, 23''' lines, gilt, flying barrel, suspended ruby cylinder escapement, 10 ruby bearing stones, plain three-arm balance with parachute on the upper pivot, flat blued steel balance spring, index regulator with bimetallic temperature compensation curve. All-or-nothing repeater with a single hammer on one gong activated by a pull and turn piston in the pendant. The movement impresses with its high quality of workmanship, all steel parts are beveled and finely matted; the gilding is excellently preserved, the overall condition is excellent.

Diameter 57 mm. Weight 135 g. Dial and cuvette signed.  The pictured leather box is part of the offer.

The watch was auctioned on October 15, 2006 for 70,800 CHF in Geneva, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Du Rhône.

According to the Breguet archives, the watch was sold to Robert Knight on August 29, 1829 for 2,400 francs. The movement with 23 lines, Repetition á Ponts, Case No. 196, by Joly, silver dial, gold cuvette. A certificate with no. 1230 was issued; this is no longer available.
