Rare original antique engraving from an 1870s French illustrated journal. It depicts a sports event in which dogs are baited to kill a mule. The mule is on the ground screaming as 8 or 9 dogs attack it. The men of the town watch in a large crowd. They appear to be pit bull dogs is similar bull baiting breeds.

Pit bull is the common name for a type of dog descended from bulldogs and terriers. Formal breeds often considered to be of the pit bull type include the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Bully, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier

The print is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 10.5 x 14.5 inches (26.5 x 36.5 cm). The picture area measures about 6 x 4 inches, with a French caption below. The text on the page could easily be trimmed before framing, or hidden under a window mat.
