You are bidding on a large original antique print from an 1880s illustrated journal. The quality of the printing from that era was exceptional. This antique print depicts three southern Freedmen singing old Plantation Slavery Songs, 20 years after the abolition of slavery in the United States. One plays a banjo. A woman on the stairwell laughs. A young girl learns the songs.

The picture is in the “Uncle Remus” manner popular in the day. Uncle Remus was a collection of animal stories, songs, and oral folklore collected from southern black Americans by Joel Chandler Harris. The character was a kindly old freedman who serves as a story-telling device, passing on the folktales to children gathered around him.

The print is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 11 x 16 inches (28 x 40.5 cm). The picture fills most of the page, with a caption below.

The page is in excellent condition for its age.
There is text/photos on the back of the print. See scan for an accurate view of the condition.

This print will come with a Certificate of Authenticity.
