This product is a set of two German Reich notes issued in 1922 as emergency currency during the post-World War I period. The notes have a face value of 1 Mark and 2 Mark respectively and were issued as Darlehenskaffenschein, which means loan certificates. The notes were issued by the German government to finance the reconstruction efforts after the war. The notes are uncertified and their grade is unknown. Darlehenskaffenschein notes were issued from 1914 to 1922 by the Reichsschuldenverwaltung which was the Reich Debt Administration. They were used as a parallel currency to the Goldmark during WWI to the beginning of the Weimar Republic and the hyperinflation of 1923. They were not legal tender but had to be accepted by all public treasuries. The value was guaranteed by loans on industrial and agricultural goods.
