This is a wonderful full-page color plate by Jennie Harbour from an extremely rare children’s book that is over 100 years old.  It is done in lucious art nouveau style. It depicts the story of Hansel and Gretel. "Hansel and Gretel" (diminutives of Johannes and Margaret) is a well-known fairy tale of German origin, recorded by the Brothers Grimm and published in 1812. Hansel and Gretel are a young brother and sister threatened by a cannibalistic witch living deep in the forest in a house constructed of cake and confectionery. The two children save their lives by outwitting her.

Interestingly, both Hansel and Gretel are shown as older children, perhaps teens or pre-teens.

The print has a blank back, meaning it was printed separately from the text for better quality and then tipped in or sewn into the book when it was bound.

The page size is approx. 6.5 x 9.3 inches and the actual image size (without margins) is approx. 5.25 x 6.6 inches (approx. 13.2 x 16.6 cm).
