This is a black-and-white plate from an extremely rare book that is approximately 75 years old. It depicts a German shepherd dog laying field-telephone wire. He has a harness with a wire coil on it, and the wire is uncoiled as he goes from trench to trench or post to post.

These dogs were sometimes called Red Cross Dog, Ambulance Dog, Chien Sanitaire, sanitshund, messenger dog, search and rescue dog, War Dog, Military Dog, etc..

It has a blank back, meaning it was printed separately from the text for better quality and then tipped in or sewn into the book when it was bound. It would look wonderful framed.

The paper is heavy and of quality. There are light stains in the outer white margin of this print. The page measures approx. 5.5 x 8.5 inches, and the picture (without margins) is approx. 3.5 x 5.5 inches.
