Fluorite (sometimes called fluor-spar) is a mineral composed of calcium fluoride mineral. Fluorite is colourless but impurities of hydrocarbons produce the wide variety of colours including multicoloured and banded.

The name fluorite is derived from the Latin fluo meaning flow, in reference to its use as a flux.
