Johannes Weiland was a Dutch painter and the uncle of Frits and Jacob Weiland, also painters.

Weiland was a student at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten (Academy of Fine Arts) in

Rotterdam where he would later teach himself from 1879 and was awarded medals on several

occasions. He lived and worked in Rotterdam and The Hague. He was a member of the artist association Pulchri Studio in

The Hague and the Aesthetisch Genootschap (Aesthetical Association) in Rottedam. Johannes Weiland is predominantly known for

rustic scenes depicting everyday rural life. Weiland was like many of his generation inspired by Old Masters of Dutch Golden Age.

In his bold brush marks, we see the strength of Rembrandt coupled with a masterly approach to light/shade.  Proud of his heritage,

the rich history of the low countries runs throughout his body of work.

His work is in numerous Museums and Galleries including Leeds, Dordrecht, Albany and Utrecht.
