The name Kuruvina has been used for Heen Bovitiyain the past.  Heen Bovitiya is a perennial plant that grows as a widely branched shrub.  This plant is endemic to our country.  Branchlets stout, stout, bark reddish brown.  The leaves are slightly ovate.  The light purple flower with five petals is beautiful.  The beautiful purple flower is named after the Southern Province flower.  Propagated by seeds and twigs in small fruits.  Purple ripe fruit can be eaten as a fruit.  Here the leaves and young stalks are eaten.   Heen Bovitiya is a plant belonging to the genus Melastomataceae.  Although many species of Bovitiya can be found in Sri Lanka as well as in other countries including India, Heenbovitia is a plant with medicinal value found only in Sri Lanka.

The leaves, bark, and roots of this plant are used to treat diseases such as diabetes, hemorrhoids, jaundice, liver disease, and high cholesterol in the blood.

* Heen Bovitiya porridge is very beneficial for people with high blood fat and jaundice.

* It is also recommended to eat Heen Bovitiya curry as a remedy for jaundice.

The condition can be cured by cooking Heen Bovitiya kirata several times in the stomach without any stomach ache.

* It is said that the body heat is lost by drinking porridge with chopped coconut and raw rice and drinking it with Kithul jaggery in the morning.

* Heen Bovitiya plant is a boiled drink for urinary tract infections.
