DESCRIPTION

The first edition, first printing with 'you' for 'your' on page 13.

'The Hound of the Baskervilles' was the third of all four novels featuring the noted detective Sherlock Holmes. The novel was originally serialised in 'Strand Magazine' from 1902-1902 and is largely set in the West Country on Dartmoor. This was the first appearance of Holmes following his 'death' in 'The Final Problem'. Its success brought the character's eventual revival.

Illustrated with 16 monochrome plates by Sidney Paget.  Collated, the front endpaper (blank) has been removed. Otherwise, the work contains all images and leaves of text.

A prior owner has underlined in pencil the occasions that Watson's name is mentioned, as well as the word 'elementary'.

Uncommon in such a bright condition. A beautiful copy of this canonical novel, and widely considered to be the best Sherlock Holmes novel.

CONDITION

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, extremely smart. Light shelfwear to the joints and extremities. Front flyleaf (blank) has been removed. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with just the odd spot.
