Description

Exceptional and rare French Louis XVI period mantel clock. Offered in good working order and wonderful, original condition. The clock dates from the late 1700s and includes original sunburst pendulum and a suitable winding key.

The French made very few clocks with fusee and this example rare too in that it strikes the hour only (number of hours) and is of 7 days duration, not 8. There is no makers mark. Silk suspended, sunburst pendulum, anchor escapement and rack strike.

The glorious case of white/black marble, golden ormolu and patinated bronze. Finely executed detail to the cherub pair and applied ormolu decoration. The top finial an eagle clutching a laurel garland astride a globe.




Weighs 8.5kg before wrapping. Stands 16.25" (41cm) high, 9.75" (25cm) wide and 4.25" (11cm) deep. The dial is 4.5" diameter.
