These were handed out during the Apple "Demo Days" promotion. Apple hired Product Specialists to be in the Big Box Stores to promote and increase sales of Apple Computers. 

Apple introduced the Mac OS Operating System when it ushered in the mainstream Graphical User Interface era with the 128K Mac Computer in 1984.
