Tours and shows presented
The Courtois theater around 1875
Antoine-Léonard Courtois was born in Tongres (Belgium) in 1823 and died in Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique) in 19012. Accompanying his father on his European tours from a very young age, he continued this tradition by creating his own traveling theater.
The shows presented to French3,4,5,6, Belgian7, and Swiss8 audiences offered conjuring, acrobatics as well as the staging of various physical and chemical phenomena.
In addition to its creator, the troupe was made up of his brother, Jules Courtois (also a conjurer), his wife Euphrosine Picolo (dramatic artist, daughter of Jean-Baptiste Picolo of the Picolo theater), and other artists and acrobats like Célestin Gastaldi, Joseph Ragoy, and the own children of Antoine-Léonard Courtois.
The Fééries Fantastiques tours lasted a quarter of a century, until 1884, the date of the sale of the theater by Antoine-Léonard9.
