Rare Abraham Lincoln CDV photo card lithograph by Louis Prang & Co Boston

Secured in antique tramp art carved wooden frame with gold-leaf decorative border

Printed in 1861, the first year Prang created these cards

This card is notably older than the more commonly sold variants, which read “Boston & Washington” — you will note that “Boston” alone is printed on this card, indicating that it was printed before Louis Prang & Co expanded into Washington

The Lincoln Collection houses one of these same cards, and indicates it is a lithograph

The card itself is 2.5 X 4 inches

Card secured within frame with plastic protective material over top of it, there is age-related foxing. No tears, folds, or other significant damage.

Derived from a photograph captured by esteemed photographer Alexander Gardner on the 2nd of February, 1861.

Regarded by many as “the first trading cards”, L. Prang & Co. produced collectible carte-de-visite-sized portraits of Lincoln and his Civil War era contemporaries. Prang is also considered “the father of the American Christmas Card”.
