Maurice Scève, born around 1501 in Lyon and died around 1564, is a French poet. He is the author of Delie, object of highest virtue. Maurice Scève is the leader of what has long been agreed to be called "the Lyon School", even if there is no manifesto, no collective theoretical publication explaining this magisterium and the homogeneity of a united group around him. do not justify the expression. Coming from a wealthy and well-established bourgeoisie (his father is a judge-mage, his cousin Guillaume is a renowned humanist), he met artists and men of letters early on, such as Clément Marot, Étienne Dolet, Charles de Sainte -Marthe and Guillaume du Choul her cousin. His erudition, his very sure artistic sense and his prestige in the capital of Gaul in the 1540s made him designated as the main organizer of the solemn entry of Henry II in September 1548. However, he does not seem to have cultivated honors, he almost never signs his works, and disappears without a trace. The last testimony to the existence of Maurice Scève dates back to June 22, 1563: his presence is attested at the wedding of a daughter of his cousin Guillaume du Choul (died on that date)1.
