Camille Looten (Noordpeene, October 16, 1855 - Lille, November 27, 1941). He began his studies in Noordpeene, in French Flanders, under the direction of his father, a municipal teacher, and continued them at the minor seminary of Cambrai. They end at the Catholic University of Lille which has just been founded after the vote of the 1875 law on private higher education. In 1900, he succeeded as president of the Flemish Committee of France to Mr Bonvarlet who had just died. He has held this position for over 41 years. Camille Looten is deeply attached to the Flemish language which he knows perfectly. He suffered from the disrepute with which he was too often surrounded and from the ban on teaching it at school.
