Miniassegni are special kind of currency (like notgeld) which were used as a replacement of small denominated coins during their shortage in Italy in mid 1970's. Banks were printing actual bank drafts, made payable to various small entities and companies with their pre-printed endorsement. The checks were then treated as bearer securities, and exchanged by the public as if they were real currency. Total of 42 banks issued 835 different types of mini-checks. Mini-checks disappeared from circulation by the end of 1978.
