1979 Mini Clubman Estate in restored condition for sale. The previous owner spent 4 years restoring the car including all bodywork with a professional respray, subframes and all other components stripped off the car before being reassembled. We have a USB stick with various pictures showing some of this process.
Some details on the restoration which the previous owner went through with us:
Bodywork includes heritage front end panels, rear
subframe mounts replaced, rear valance, inner sills, flitch panels both sides,
a-panels, light surround panels, door-step panels both sides and so on. All
joins were sealed where possible with a polyurethane sealant and coated with an
anti-corrosive substrate before painting.
Both subframes replaced, shot blasted, powder coated and
poly bushed. All suspension struts have
been replaced, fitted with Hi-Lo suspension so can be adjusted all round.
The A+ engine is fitted with an electronic ignition, new
piston rings and bearings. The original engines head (1098cc) has been adapted
to run on unleaded and then fitted the A+ 998 engine with electronic ignition
for better reliability, an aluminium radiator, top of the line Samco hoses, and
the must have smiffy bits for a touch of bling. The car was then tuned by a
specialist after completion to ensure the engine was running sweet.
Minilite wheels which suit the car well, tyres have lots
of tread. The wheels themselves aren’t in perfect condition and may benefit
from a refurb.
Interior refurbished, original clubman carpets, newton
commercial door cards, rear boot carpet, rear seat carpet and companion bin
pocket liners. Bulkhead sound deadening material.
The seats are original and have been re-dyed and
re-foamed where necessary to look like new, roof lining dyed black instead of
the usual white to compliment the interior theme.
There are some subtle changes to the car which may not be
original to a 1979 mini but are a nice improvement:
The refurbed steering wheel from an earlier model, the 3 pinnacle clocks with the rev counter including a new speedometer so you can see the car has covered less than 1000 miles since completion of the restoration. There are one piece bespoke rear quarter glass for each side which look great. Fuel filler cap matching the centre cap of the steering wheel, one off spare wheel cover made into a chess board for a personal touch, 12v power supply for modern navigation devices if you choose. Wheel arch liners have been fitted to finish off the car.
The car has only seen wet weather twice since completion, once on a trailer to the brands mini festival and then a short local trip to a garage. There are many more pictures of the car, including when the car was purchased and throughout restoration. I will provide a USB stick with all pictures we have, there are a couple of original sale brochures/paperwork.
Genuine reason for sale, it was bought for the family and we just haven’t used it as much as we thought, covering around 500 miles since purchase. It has been stored in the mother-in-law’s garage until last summer when we moved home and had space in our own garage.
Bad points, there is a small scuff on the front bumper, engine has some paint peeling and the speedo drive cover is seeping oil a little. We also think it would benefit from a tune-up as did cough a couple of times on the 20 mile drive home but this may be due to it sitting, we try and start it every couple of weeks now it’s home and it does start after a few cranks.
This car is sold as seen. You will have plenty of time to check the car over before you take it away. There will be no warranty given or implied and you buy this car at your own risk, any inspection is welcome. A box of spare parts will be provided with the sale at no cost if the buyer wishes to take them, simple parts like spark plugs, ignition leads, distributor cap, left-over oil.
Tax and MOT exempt, currently insured with agreed value of £15,000. Test drives welcome with proof of comprehensive insurance, happy to take you round the estate in the car.
